The Celebrate Life Series Presents a New, Unique and Fun Cake Cutting Idea for Your Wedding: via Mike Walter

The Celebrate Life Series continues with a segment on how to make your cake cutting more fun, unique and memorable for both you and your guests. This episode features my good friend, wedding entertainment expert and author of 10 Things You Can Do To Have A Better Day, Mike Walter.

After 25 years of entertaining couples, Mike got to enjoy the view from the other side of the DJ booth and experience The Best Wedding Reception Ever with his gorgeously-awesome fiance, Kelly. And, while he did come up with a few neat ideas on his own, it was KELLY’s ultra-creative idea that earned Mike another interview slot here on the Celebrate Life Series and has quite a few Wedding Entertainers buzzing across the country! 🙂

Singing “The Bride Cuts The Cake” may have been cool back in 1989, and just playing a cool song in the background while the bride & groom feed each other might have been cool enough for the past couple of years, but… if you are looking for a way to make your wedding reception different from your sister’s or different from the 6 other receptions you’ve gone to recently, check out this clip.

Brilliant and super-fun!

Best wishes to Kelly and Mike!

How To Give a Classy and Memorable Best Man’s Toast: Advice from Glenn O’Brien, GQ’s “Style Guy”

If you’re an avid reader and fan of GQ Magazine, you know Glenn O’Brien.   He’s the style Yoda to all the wannabe Jedis out there who do their best to follow in his fashionably-elegant and seemingly-unflappable good taste footsteps.

In this month’s “Style Guy” column, Mr. O’Brien responded to a soon-to-be Best Man who essentially asked him how to give a “classy,” “sentimental,” “charming” and “memorable” toast.

Mr. O’Brien’s advice was spot on.  Having seen a number of toasts that have made it to youtube for all the wrong reasons, I’m going to risk plagiarism for the sake of all the brides and grooms out there who are hoping to have The Best Wedding Reception… Ever!, and share his reply with you here.

“I advise utter tact and diplomacy.  Your words will live in infamy.  After the ceremony, one should still behave ceremonially.  The roast is for the bachelor party, not mixed company.  Yes, you may toss out a few left-handed compliments for laughs, but never tread into the area of premarital relations, the wedding night, or worse.   By far the best tactic is sucking up to the bride and her clan by insisting just how lucky your friend is to have found such a perfect bride.” –Glenn O’Brien

Like the words of wisdom found in my friend Tom Haibeck’s book, Wedding Toasts Made Easy , Mr. O’Brien’s guidance should be heeded by anyone who will be given a glass of champagne, everyone’s attention and a microphone at someone’s once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Fortunately, when I was given the honor to be chosen as best man for my dear friends Mike & Kelly recently, my experience as a Master of Ceremonies and Wedding Entertainment Director served me well.   And “sucking up” to the bride was easy… because it was genuine.

Good luck everyone!  If I can help in anyway, let me know.

The Celebrate Life Series: Episode #11- Jason Jani from SCE says “Be original, Be awesome.”

The Celebrate Life Series continues with my good friend, Signature Event Co-collaborator and Founder of the SCE Event Group, Jason Jani.   (jan-eye)

In this episode, Jason shares some of the challenges he’s faced along his journey to the top of the mobile entertainment industry.  He also stays true to his reputation for being a savvy innovator by sharing ways he creates distinctive production-based private events for his clientele.

For all the brides that are visiting today, Jani gives you a Pinterestworthy suggestion for making the Father Daughter dance even more special and memorable on your wedding day!

Throughout the interview, you’ll see some fabulous video footage from Jason’s event portfolio.    I think you”ll agree that Jason’s company motto of, “We do cool things for cool people,” is on point.

When Jason wrote these words below on the SCE Facebook page a few months ago, it was easy to see why he’s been known to bring the “Jani Fire” wherever her goes.  Get some.

“…If you lack creativity and can’t think outside the box, you will simply live in the average. Average has never been good enough for me, or my business. That’s my motivation everyday. Do something good today, be original, be awesome…”  – Jason Jani

A Proposal She’ll Never Forget

The Best Wedding Reception… Ever! deserves a proposal like this.  Kudos to Ryan Thompson for giving his gorgeous fiance the ride of her life. WOW!

The sky is the limit for creativity folks.  Down on one knee is still cool, but don’t be afraid to think outside the box… or 18,000 feet above it.

Thanks to Kelly O’Neill for today’s incredible Sunshine Club submission.  Obviously, it’s perfect for our Wedding Reception blog too.  🙂
